Daniel D. Driscoll, 70, of lowa City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.
Dan was born on March 19, 1946, the son of Vincent and Hilda (Schmidt) Driscoll. Dan grew up in Williamsburg and graduated from Williamsburg High School. He attended the University of Iowa and received his Bachelor of Arts from Loras College in Dubuque.
During a career spanning more than 50 years, Dan served in the professional photography field, with galleries in Williamsburg and Iowa City. He received the designation of Master of Photography from Winona School of Professional Photography and was a member of the Professional Photographers of America. His other interests included horticulture, where he grafted and raised apple trees, fishing and golf.
He was united in marriage to Janet Helmer on July 4, 1991, in Iowa City. He also is survived by his children, Duree (Scott) Thatcher of Eau Claire, Wis., Darren (Carrie) Driscoll of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Amy (Hassan) Khanfri of Long Island, N.Y., Hannah (Rob) Young of Wellman, Iowa, Emily (Tim) Ruby of River Forest, Ill., and Sarah Helmer of Fox River Grove, Ill.; his sister, Diana Yoss of Ankeny, Iowa; and brother, David (Jolene) Driscoll of Williamsburg. Dan was loved by his 13 grandchildren and was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Dan's life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City.
