Dana, Robert
Robert Dana, 80, former Cornell College English professor and Iowa's Poet Laureate from 2004 through 2008, died Feb. 6, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Dana, known by many friends and students as RP, had taught at Cornell for 40 years when he retired in 1994 as the college's Poet-in-Residence.
Two public memorial events are scheduled, as follows:
•A Memorial Reading by friends reading poems from Dana's posthumously issued book “New & Selected Poems 1955-2010” will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27, in Room 101, Becker Communication Studies Building at The University of Iowa.
•A Memorial Celebration of Dana's life and influence as a teacher and writer will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 28. at King Chapel, Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa.
