Dan Demmer, 65, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away after a 5-month battle with lung cancer on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at Hillside Community Church in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the church. Private family burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Greeley, Iowa. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family.
Dan was born on December 3, 1959, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Loras and Kathleen “Kay” (Eilers) Demmer. He graduated from West Delaware High School in 1978. He owned and operated Demmer Custom Furniture for 40+ years creating furniture and custom cabinets. Dan loved volunteering and going on mission trips with Samaritan’s Purse. He was a devoted and active member of Hillside Community Church. Dan enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, canning, and restoring Willy Jeeps and Oliver tractors.
Survivors include his daughters, Tara (Tyler) Nielsen of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Abby (Michael) Reuther of Nolensville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tory, Tate, Tessa, Jackson, Levi and Rosie; father, Loras Demmer of Greeley, Iowa; brother, Kevin (Doris) Demmer of Dyersville, Iowa; nephew, Brian (Lisa) Demmer of Urbandale, Iowa; and nieces, Heidi (Chris) Smith of Ankeny, Iowa, and Nicole (Ryan) Plummer of Elk Run Heights, Iowa.
Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Kay and his stepmother, Jean.
Memorial donations may be directed to Samaritan’s Purse.
