Dalziel, Jack 'Red'
Jack “Red” Dalziel, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. There will be no service according to Red's wishes. Inurnment: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington, Iowa.
Born Jan. 26, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Red was the son of John Leonard and Inno (Yates) Dalziel. Red attended McKinley High School and then joined the U.S. Navy in January 1946. Red was stationed in Guam for the two years he served his country, coming home in 1948. Red was married in May 1952 to Wilda Squires. They divorced in 1984. Red started his career as a truck driver for Kenwood House and then Eastern Iowa Coop. Red retired from North American Van Lines as a salesman. Baseball, softball and slow pitch were Red's favorite pastime, both watching and playing on state winning teams. Red also enjoyed racing and could often be found at Hawkeye Downs.
Survivors include his sons, Dan Dalziel and fiancee Deb Carter Covell of Burlington, and Joe (Lisa) Dalziel of Hiawatha; his grandchildren, Drew Dalziel of Arizona, Jordan Dalziel of Mediapolis, and Whitney Dalziel of Swisher; a sister, Lorraine Fowler; and nieces, Kathy Pena, Jorja Chmelicek and Paula Baker.
Red was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bruce Lee Dalziel.
