Dalton Thomas DeSotel, 42 years old, of Independence, IA, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at his home in Independence, following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. John Catholic Church with Very Rev. David M. Beckman as celebrant. Burial will be at the St. John Catholic Cemetery in Independence.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 16 at White Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Friday, at the church.
Dalton was born February 6, 1982, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Mark Henry DeSotel, Jr and Mary Jo (Atkinson) DeSotel. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, IA, with the class of 2000 and then attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. In high school Dalton participated in an assortment of activities including soccer, cross country running, and marching band. Dalton worked for Fleck Sales in Cedar Rapids and Wapsie Valley Creamery in Independence. On the side he enjoyed mowing grass for local residents and businesses.
Family was important to Dalton, and his pride and joy was his niece and nephews. He loved spending time with them, reading, playing trains and Hot Wheels, and making them laugh with filters on his phone. Dalton had a big heart and a great sense of humor, often playing pranks on family and friends. He will forever be remembered as a kind and loving person. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Kansas City Royals, and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to watch the games and races and follow along all season.
Dalton is survived by his mother, Mary (Steve) Ohl of Independence, IA; his father, Mark (Linda) DeSotel, Jr. of Fairfax, IA; two brothers, Denton (Beth) DeSotel of Washington, DC, Damon DeSotel of Prairieville, LA; one sister, Deidre (Aaron) Brown of Cedar Rapids, IA; one niece, Colette DeSotel; three nephews, Calvin DeSotel, Jack Brown, John Brown; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roy Atkinson and Lavon Williams; and his paternal grandparents, Mark H. DeSotel, Sr. and Alice DeSotel.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for projects at Dalton’s niece and nephews’ respective schools.
