Dalene A. Ford, 82, of Geneseo, Ill., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Woodridge Supportive Living Residence in Geneseo. A funeral service celebrating her life will be 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be two hours before the service, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be left to Good Samaritan Society-Geneseo Village.
Born Dalene Ann Sobehart on Oct. 11, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Bessie (Klima) Sobehart. Dalene graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. She worked for a period of time in the office of Dr. E.L. Grandon. Dalene was united in marriage to Louis H. Ford on Oct. 14, 1967, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Louis preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1981.
Dalene lived in Cedar Rapids until July 1, 2010, when she moved to Good Samaritan Geneseo Village to be closer to her only son's family. She had just recently moved to Woodridge Supportive Living Residence in Geneseo.
Dalene was a tremendously sweet and caring woman, volunteering at Mercy Medical Center during her time in Cedar Rapids.
Her family and friends will miss her cheery outlook and encouraging words, along with the caramels, cookies and Czech kolaches she was famous for baking.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Beth (Luckenbill) Ford of Geneseo, Ill.; and her two beloved grandchildren, Ben and Danny.
Dalene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brothers Arnold (1929) and Argene (1951).
