Dale William Ortner, 95, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023, at West Ridge Care Center. Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Inurnment: Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa, Iowa, at a later date.
Dale was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Fred and Elizabeth (Geier) Ortner. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. Dale served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1948. He was united in marriage to Jane Edith Maudsley on June 11, 1955, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Anamosa, Iowa. Dale was employed as an Industrial Engineer at Rockwell Collins for his entire career. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Dale is survived by his four sons, Robert and Joseph, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Matthew (Tamara) of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Michael of St. Paul, Minn.; two siblings, Tom (Donna) Ortner of Tennessee and Nancy (Frank) Tobin of Missouri; and his grandchildren, Tara Ortner, Jack Ortner and Abby Ortner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and spouse, Jane Ortner.
