Dale W. Brodt, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Craig Peters. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at the funeral home from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Thursday after 10 a.m.
Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rena; three daughters, Chrisie Brodt, Cherie (Craig Bendixsen) Walter, both of Cedar Rapids, and Cheryl (Bill) Lehman of Shueyville; son, Scott Brodt of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Christopher Shea, Adam (Chrystal) Walter, Mitch Walter, Kyra, Kollin and Kloie Lehman; five great-grandchildren, with one on the way; two brothers, Bruce Brodt of Arnold, Mo., and Gary (Fiona) Brodt of Beith Ayrshire, Scotland; and sister, Barbara Brodt of Aurora, Colo.
Dale was born March 27, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the son of Harold and Dorothy White Brodt. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1956 and married Rena Seaton on March 28, 1958, in Cherokee, Iowa. Dale worked in broadcasting as a DJ and reporter for over 30 years, starting in his home town of Mason City in 1957. He then worked at stations in Cherokee and Oelwein before moving to Cedar Rapids, where he worked at KLWW Radio and KCRG TV. After his broadcasting career, Dale went to work for the City of Cedar Rapids, where he retired as the chief zoning inspector in 2003. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for MediaQuest Outdoor for several years.
In 2015, Dale was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1987, Dale began as the public address announcer at the old Veterans Memorial Stadium and had done over 1,700 minor league baseball games. Dale was a big fan of the Cleveland Indians, Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and had an extensive record and CD collection. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge and was on the Commission and volunteered for over 30 years at Pioneer Village now known as Ushers Ferry Historic Village. Dale loved trains and volunteered for several years on the Iowa Hawkeye Express.
The family would like to thank the loving and compassionate caregivers of UnityPoint Hospice who took such wonderful care of Dale and the family.
