Dale John Slager Sr., 90, of Anamosa, passed away Jan. 27, 2014, at his son's residence in North Liberty after a short illness. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesdsay, Jan. 29, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with Pastors Jim and Kris May officiating. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. before the service Wednesday at the chapel.
Dale J. Slager was born March 7, 1923, to John and Hazel (Figg) Slager in Williamsburg, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Druecilla Stumpff on June 8, 1946, in Marengo. Dale farmed in rural Iowa and Linn counties his entire life.
Dale was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church. He was active in the Farm Bureau and was a former director of Brown Township Mutual Insurance. He was a proud seller of Golden Harvest Seed Corn.
Dale enjoyed crossword puzzles and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed tending to his flower garden and shared with friends and family. He also loved woodworking and animals, especially the cats on the farm. Dale was known for his Christmas light display.
He is survived by his loving wife, Druecilla; daughter, Andrea Fowler (Bob) of Corvallis, Mont.; son, Dale Slager Jr. (Retha) of North Liberty; daughter, Janice Robertson (Gary) of Martelle; three grand-daughters, Rachel and Erica Robertson, both of Anamosa, and Aubrey Finch (Lance) of Fairfax; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, LaVera Meyer; and brothers, Eldon and Carroll Slager.
Memorial donations in Dale's memory may be directed to Anamosa Senior Dining or Cedar Rapids Hospice of Mercy.
