Dale H. Sawyer, 97, passed into the loving care of his lord, Friday, September 20, 2024, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dale was born on November 9, 1926, in Scott County, Iowa. Raised on the family farm, he was educated in Township County School and Davenport Central High School. Dale served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps from 1944 to 1946 and later attended the University of Illinois College of Engineering and St. Ambrose College of Business Administration. He moved to Creston, Iowa in 1948 to be closer to the love of his life Billie Babara Moffitt. On August 20, 1949, the two married and together they had two children, Steven and Debra.
He joined Central States Electric in 1948 and then Iowa Electric Light and Power where he served 36 years. His last position with IE was Regional Superintendent. Dale was a proud member of the American Legion and Boy Scouts of America, where he served as area President and was awarded the Silver Beaver by his peers. The Junior Chamber of Commerce acknowledged him with the “Outstanding Young Man” Award in 1960. Governor Ray awarded him with outstanding service to Iowa Community Development in 1976. He was active in the community serving as President of three Rotary Clubs, President of Linn County Mental Health Center, Foundation II and Oelwein Industrial Development Commission.
Dale and Billie Barbara moved to Michigan in December 1987 to be closer to their daughter Debra and her young family. They returned to Cedar Rapids in 1994, where they shared many happy years together with family, friends and members of their beloved First Lutheran Church.
Dale is survived by his son Steven (Diane) Sawyer and their children Kaitlin (Brad) Rogstad and Alexandra Sawyer; son-in-law Dean Frick and his children Benjamin (Kathryn) Frick, Jennifer (Benjamin) Walker and great-grandchildren Dexter Frick, Griffin Frick, Ellison Rogstad and Noah Walker.
Dale was predeceased by his wife, Billie Barbara; daughter, Debra Frick; parents Herbert and Myra Robinson Sawyer; sister, L. Berneal (Herschel) Swanson and brothers; Russel (Mary) Sawyer, Harold (Gertrude) Sawyer, Laverne (Wilma) Sawyer, Eugene (Dorthy) Sawyer and Lynn Sawyer.
