Dale D. Griffith, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Higdon officiating. Entombment, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his daughter, Deanna (Mike) Kroemer of Blairstown; sons, Jack (Barb) of Sheridan, Wyo., Gary (Nancy) of Solon and Scott of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene, in 2010; and a brother, Richard.
Dale was born March 15, 1926, in Monticello, the son of Clarence and Rebecca (Appleby) Griffith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas in the U.S. Army. On Dec. 21, 1944, he married Arlene M. Lubben in Cedar Rapids. Dale worked as a foreman at Wilson Foods until he retired in 1985 after many years of service.
He was a member of VFW Post 788 and the American Legion. Dale enjoyed bowling and traveling, especially to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and spending weekends at his cabin on Lake Delhi. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
