Dakota "Cody" Cooney, 26, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018. Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, Kelley Cooney of Walker, Iowa, and James Cooney of Marion, Iowa; his sister, Kaylin (Steven) Bohm; and nephew, Elliot Bohm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his brother, Casey Cooney of Marion, Iowa; and his grandparents, Noel and Kumiko Cooney of Texas and Judy and Del Boardman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Cody was born Sept. 20, 1992, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of James and Kelley Cooney. He was a student at Novak Elementary and Linn-Mar High School in Marion and employed with Nordstrom's Company in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing many games of basketball with his friends, cars and racing with dad, gaming and his favorite card game Magick. He loved nature and the outdoors. Cody was a very loving and selfless person. He always put others first before himself. He loved animals so much, typically more than most people. He had a dog named Baloo and a cat named Milo who he loved very much. Cody also loved being around his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
