Dahnke, Robert 'Bob'
Robert ”Bob” Dahnke, 61, of 3738 Pineridge NE, North Liberty, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 15, 2011, at home with his family beside him. Bob chose to be cremated. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at noon Saturday at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. The family will greet friends following the service from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bob was born May 22, 1949, in Iowa City, the son of Robert L. and Edith (Evans) Dahnke. Growing up in Iowa City, Bob graduated from Iowa City High School in 1967. Bob met and married Cindi Kennedy on Feb. 10, 1968, in Iowa City. Bob worked for Moore Business Forms in Iowa City for 25 years. He then operated his own business, Surface Specialists. For the past 15 years, Bob worked as a correctional leadsman at Iowa Medical Correction Center (IMCC) at Oakdale.
He was a member of the Iowa City Eagles Lodge. Both Bob and Cindi volunteered for Johnson County Relay for Life and at the Macbride Raptor Project. Bob and Cindi kept a home in Rotonda, Fla., where for many years they enjoyed the sun, the ocean and the warm weather.
He is survived by his wife, Cindi; son, Rob (Idaliz Maldonado) of Eden Prairie, Minn.; Bob and Cindi's Alaskan malamute, Kenji; sisters-in-law, Laurie (Rick) Barenz of Middle Amana and Sherrie Faas of Coralville; nieces and nephews, Ron and Emily Hobbs, and their children, Kyle and Quenten, Rachelle (Ron) Flake, and their children, Tyler and Dustin, Justin (Lindsey) K`nottnerus, Taran (Jason) Knottnerus, Kristen (Mark) Kelso and Kari (Dan) Blakeslee, and their children, Carter and Quenten.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rita.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, Johnson County Relay for Life or the Macbride Raptor Project.
