Cushing, Jon
Jon Cushing, 56, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly on Monday in San Diego, Calif. A celebration of Jon's life will be held on Wednesday, July 13, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the 3rd Street Saloon located above the Chrome Horse (1202 Third St. SE, Cedar Rapids). A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 12, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private family memorial service will be held Wednesday, with inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Kimberly; children, Melissa Cushing of San Diego, Calif., and Ben Cushing of Iowa City; his father, Robert L. Cushing, Middleboro, Mass.; his sister, Judy (Allen) Thomas of Chelmsford, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Jon was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Cushing; his brother, Joe Cushing; and his sister, Jean Cushing.
Jonathan Dean Cushing was born Oct. 10, 1954, in Middleboro, Mass., the son of Robert L. and Elizabeth D. (Smith) Cushing. Jon was a 1976 graduate of Coe College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and economics. He married Kimberly Ann Bendixsen on Aug. 9, 1980, in Cedar Rapids. Jon was co-owner of Tektivity in Cedar Rapids.
Jon was a member and past president of the Daybreak Rotary Club, member of the board of directors of the Cedar Rapids Kernels Foundation, member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids, past board of directors member of the Boy Scouts, the Indian Creek Nature Center, and of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership for Five Seasons Program. He was also a United Way volunteer.
Jon enjoyed staying active in his community, was a dedicated Boston sports fan, and above all, his greatest enjoyment was his family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a memorial fund established in Jon's honor.
