CURTIS EDWARD POSTEL
Anamosa
Curtis Edward Postel, 85, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021. Curtis was born in Anamosa, Iowa, to Lyman and Dorothy (Grassfield) Postel. He graduated in 1953 from Viola High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Army National Guard for six years. He worked 37 years at Rockwell Collins as
a foreman. He received an Apollo achievement award for dedicated service as a member of the team that advanced the nation's capabilities in aeronautics and space. He demonstrated many outstanding accomplishments in culminating Apollo 11's successful achievement of man's first landing on the moon July 20, 1969.
Curtis loved farming and enjoyed refurbishing tractors and farm equipment. He was the happiest and enjoyed "tinkering" on something up in his shed. Curtis was very talented at fixing stuff and problem solving so he retired early to follow his passion.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Lou; daughter, Norma Maurer (Bob) and their children, Rachel, Adam, Bailey and Carly; daughter, Deb Hendrickson (Steve) and their children, Olivia and Evan; brother, Bing (Dort); brother-in-law, Don; and sister-in-law, Mary and their children and grandchildren.
His sister, Lois; and brothers, George and Russell (Jean), predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, officiated by both Jim and Kris May at Viola United Methodist Church, 221 Center St., Viola, IA 52350; visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will be at Wilcox Cemetery, Fairview, Iowa.
Arrangements are under the direction of Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, Iowa.
