CURTIS BLOCK Ely Curtis "Curt" Lorenz Gilbert Block, 76, of Ely, died after a long illness Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Mary Beth Hartenstein. Burial will be at a later date. Survivors include his children, Dean Block of Ely, Lori Masterson of North English and Russ Aarhus of Cedar Rapids; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Marvin (Ida) Block of Oxford, and Eileen (Harry) Kessel of Caledonia, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Duane and Lyle. Curt was born Feb. 7, 1939, on a farm near Postville, Iowa, son of Lawrence and Hulda (Kuhse) Block. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville. Curt was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family; he was very fun-loving and spirited and enjoyed picking on the people he was around. He loved working on and rebuilding Ford retractable hard tops and showing off his cars. All memorials may be made to the family.
