Curtis Allen Brown, 74, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at Cedar Memorial Chapel State Room. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
Curtis was born on Oct. 18, 1947, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Allen Russell and Violet Marie (King) Brown. He was united in marriage to Suzan Schweinefus on Sept. 13, 1965. Curtis retired from Rockwell Collins in 2014 after 49 years of service. He also was a licensed pilot and loved flying. Curtis built and flew model aircraft and liked remote control cars too. He enjoyed attending dirt track races. Curtis’ other hobbies included camping and woodworking. He was a jack of all trades and there wasn’t much he couldn’t do.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Suzan of Hiawatha; daughter, Kathy Brown of Fairfax; sister, Joyce Langreck of Decorah; daughter-in-law, Julie Brown of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Stephanie (Stephen) Downey, Sydney (Ryan) Hovey, Rebecca (Ryan) Wagner, Hunter (Andrew) Garnica, Savannah Brown, Haley Dietrich, Allen Brown and Ruger Alberts; great-grandchildren, Brieanna, Ravyn, Brayden, Skyler, Aliva, Briar, Cainen and Brekken, great-great-grandson, Zak; and his nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Allen Brown; grandchildren, Kimberly Brown and Rusty Brown; and brothers-in-law, LaVern Langreck, Conley Schweinefus and Dwight Sorensen.
