Cummins, William Houston
William Houston Cummins, 99, of Marion, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan 8, 2013. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion, by the Rev. Dennis Lowe and the Rev. Jack Ray. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Doris; four sons, Burl (Ruth) Cummins of Owensville, Mo., Harry (Priscilla) Cummins of Marion, Laverne (Marilyn) Cummins of Houston, Texas, and Gene (Carla) Cummins of Whitten, Iowa; two stepsons, Steven (Bonnie) Kapsch of Spokane, Wash., and Dale Kapsch of Marion; two stepdaughters, Patsie (Terry) Dailey of Stronghurst, Ill., and Kathy (Denny) Murray of Marion; and a sister, Esther Mae Rhoden of Joplin, Mo.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
William was born July 8, 1913, in Stark City, Mo., the son of Henry Houston and Lottie Mae (Carpenter) Cummins. On Dec. 28, 1976, he married Doris Davis Kapsch in Kahoka, Mo. William built radios for Collins Radio and later worked in mail delivery for Rockwell Collins.
He was a charter member of the first Southern Baptist Church in Iowa. He was a model Christian for his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester Mac Cummins; daughter-in-law, Wilda Cummins; stepdaughter, Gayla Keller; granddaughter, Janie Cummins; grandson, William M. Cummins; and stepgranddaughter, Sabrina Dailey.
Memorials are suggested to the W.H. Cummins Memorial Fund.
