Cullen, June
June Cullen, 85, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her daughters, Deborah Spaith and husband Donald of Madison, Wis., Vicki Clendenen and husband Dave of Cedar Rapids, Lynn Swehla and husband Gaylon of Solon, and Robin Ryan and husband Dana of Anamosa; grandchildren, Donnie Spaith and wife Brooke of Madison, Wis., Rick Clendenen and wife Melanie of Cedar Rapids, Tiffany Stull and husband Jeff of Lisbon, Kelli Swehla of Hiawatha, Ashley Swehla and significant other Andy Sweeney of Hiawatha, Cory Okken and wife Jill of Atkins, Dusty Okken of Cedar Rapids, and Carly Okken and fiance Pete Taylor of Cedar Rapids; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Trey, Cody, Shannon, Zack, Austin, Caden and Gracie.
---- She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; and her siblings, Paul Collett, Edyth McCall and Lee Shoemaker.
---- Mary June Cullen was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Ray and Jennie (Potts) Collett. During World War II she worked in San Francisco, Calif., as a ship welder to support the war effort. She met Richard R. Cullen who was in the Navy and they were later married on May 7, 1948, in Hurnando, Miss. She spent her time as a Navy wife and caring for her family. She was an avid fan of Iowa Hawkeye Football and Basketball, as well as a die hard fan of the Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and time spent with family. She especially enjoyed time she was able to spend with her daughters, whom she called her best friends. She will be forever remembered for her humor and love.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of the Meth-Wick Community and Hospice Compassus for their kind and compassionate care.
