Culbertson, Duane Kenneth
Duane Kenneth Culbertson, 63, of Edgewood, died suddenly Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the United Methodist Church in Edgewood, with Pastor Mike Jackson officiating. Inurnment, with military rites: Edgewood Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood.
He was born May 31, 1947, in Manchester, the son of Durward and Louisa (Ahrens) Culbertson. He was raised in the Edgewood area and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1965.
Duane served honorably in the United States Army from 1966 until 1968. He was united in marriage to Shelley Wersinger in February 1971 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Edgewood. Two daughters were born to this union. They later divorced. Duane was employed at Edgewood Oil Co., Three Rivers FS in Earlville, and for 20 years, was custodian at Ed-Co School, where he retired in June 2010. Duane married JoAnn Farmer on July 18, 1992, at the United Methodist Church in Edgewood.
Duane served on the Edgewood City Council, was an Edgewood firefighter, and was a Boy Scout leader. His enjoyments included his six Pomeranians, collecting statues of horses, mowing the lawn, playing Mexican train dominoes, and being with his family, especially following the events of his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Culbertson of Edgewood; two daughters, Jennifer (Russ) Wulfekuhle of Manchester and Kris (Roice) Burkey of Alburnett; four grandchildren, Tyler Wulfekuhle, Alyssa Faylor, Zachary Wulfekuhle and Caleb Wulfekuhle; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Patrick and Laura Farmer of Strawberry Point; and two brothers-in-law, Keith Farmer of Strawberry Point and Kelly (Patti) Farmer of Dundee.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Durward and Louisa Culbertson; and one brother, Lowell.
