She was a longtime member of PEO and served as president of Chapter CL in Oelwein. Shirley served her community in many ways as a volunteer for a wide variety of organizations.
She enjoyed golf, reading, Bridge, and gardening, but her passion was music, and she shared this passion with her family, youth choirs and young piano students.
Her greatest joy was spending time with family, which includes her surviving husband, Andy of Oelwein; son, James Cubit (Laurie) of Grayslake, Ill.; daughters, Mary Fridley (Ben) of Hampton and Andrea Andersen (Vince) of Redwood City, Calif.; and son, Mark Cubit of Johnston. She loved spending time with her six grandchildren, Brent Fridley (Stacy), Kevin Fridley (Lauren), Michelle Beyer (Bob), Jenna Frank, Drew Cubit and Katie Cubit; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry Reese, and sister, Cecelia Van Roekel, both of Oskaloosa.
