Cruse, Mable 'Babe'
Mable “Babe” Cruse, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel.
Mable was born July 3, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Perry and Nellie (Moore) Myers. She married Marlyn “Mel” Cruse on Feb. 17, 1951, in Cedar Rapids. Babe worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Robins, as an assistant postmaster for many years until her retirement. Babe had many hobbies and interests including collecting Santa Claus items, needlepoint, knitting, crosswords, watching old sitcoms and John Wayne westerns, traveling, going to bingo and casinos. Most recently, she enjoyed scratch lottery tickets and spending time with her family.
Mable is survived by her daughter, Linda (Robert) Pizel of Cedar Rapids; her sons, Perry (Cheri) Cruse of Robins and Stan Velcko of Green River, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Kelly (Carlis) Faurot, James (Dorrin) Graves, Cory Cruse and Brett Cruse; eight great-grandchildren Jeremy, Riley, Kalee, Keith, Zandalee, Lance, Brenna and Emerson; a sister-in-law, Alreta Crock of Olin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brothers.
