Crotty, Esther M.
Esther M. Crotty, 80, a resident of Silver Pines Care Center, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Edward; three daughters, Penny (Jim deceased) McDoniels of Hicksville, Ohio, and Ginger (Patrick) O'Banion and Cindy (Rod) Happel, both of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Wanda Blakley of Riverside, Iowa, and Lettie (Speck) Rittmeyer of Minnesota; a brother, Dale (Betty) Freeman of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, five brothers and one great-grandson.
Esther was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Webb, Iowa, to Walter and Ruth Salton Freeman. She married Edward W. Crotty on April 29, 1948, in Laurens, Iowa. She was an inspector at Rockwell-Collins for 34 years. She was a member of the Eagles Club, Local IBEW 1362, and the I-Club. She enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, bowling, traveling, dancing, camping, and all University of Iowa sports.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for Breast Cancer Research.
