Crotty, Edward
Edward W. Crotty, 89, a resident of Silver Pines Care Center, died there Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, after a short illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the church after 10 a.m. Friday.
Survivors include three daughters, Penny (Jim deceased) McDoniels of Hicksville, Ohio, Ginger (Patrick) O'Banion and Cindy (Rod) Happel, all of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Leo (Shirley) of Katy, Texas.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and four sisters.
Ed was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Luzerne, the son of Walter and Gladys Morgan Crotty. He married Esther M. Freeman on April 29, 1948, in Laurens. Esther passed away in 2010. Ed worked at Rockwell for over 33 years retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Marion American Legion Post 298, the Hawkeye I Club for 50 plus years, treasurer for the IBEW 1362 for over 14 years and proudly served in the Navy during World War II. Ed was an avid Hawkeye and Kernels fan. He enjoyed golf, bowling and the time spent with his beloved family and many friends. Ed will be greatly missed and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
