Cropp, George D.
George D. Cropp, 86, of 1416 32nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services, with military rites, at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; and one daughter, Cathy (Jim) Cropp Scanlon of Cedar Rapids.
He is also survived by three grandsons, David, Christopher and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard.
George was born on Jan. 19, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Howard and Minnie Lillinbridge Cropp. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Eleanor Votroubek on Nov. 6, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. George was the district accountant for Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company for 39 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of VFW Post No. 788, Marion American Legion Post No. 298 and Mizpah Masonic Lodge No. 639.
George enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on cars, stock car racing and NASCAR. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Shriners Transportation Fund in George's name.
