Crock, Francis Joseph
Francis Joseph Crock, 93, of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at the Mechanicsville Nursing & Rehab Center. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Visitation will be from 4 to
7 p.m. today at the Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence, with a prayer service at
6:30 p.m.
Francis was born at home near Mechanicsville, to Leo and Winnifred (Merrit) Crock. He graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1935. In 1938, he married Bessie Wethington of Tipton, Iowa. They had three children, Jeanette, James and Duane. Francis spent his life farming north of Mechanicsville.
Survivors include his children, Jeanette Bagley of Indianapolis, Ind., and Duane (Judy) Crock of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Rose Walshire of Mechanicsville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie; son, James; and daughter-in-law, Della.
Francis loved his faith, family and farming. His wit and humor brought joy to friends. He didn't know how to complain.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
