Creta E. Thirtyacre, 89, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd. in Coralville, with the Rev. Alecia Hilmer officiating. The family will greet friends after 9 a.m. Burial will be at Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Creta was born July 13, 1928, in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of George and Frances Kindred Carter. On Aug. 21, 1946, Creta married Gale Thirtyacre in Hampton, Iowa. They moved to the North Liberty area in 1955, where they farmed for over 20 years.
Creta was a librarian for many years at the University of Iowa library and was a member of the North Liberty First United Methodist Church.
Creta is survived by her three sons, Darwin (Sharon) Thirtyacre of Iowa City, Wendell Thirtyacre of Washington and Marvin Thirtyacre of North Liberty; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and her brother, Gaylord Carter of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2015; her son, G. Dwayne; and eight siblings, Bessie, Dorsey "Red," Roland, Jack, Arlis "Jack," Oury, Orville and Delmar.
