Cedar Rapids
Craig Albers, 60, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at his home. The family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Craig was born Jan. 4, 1958, the son of Lawrence and Harriet (Bender) Albers, and raised on a farm in Keystone, Iowa. He graduated from Benton Community High School in 1976 and attended Kirkwood Community College. In 1980, he married Sue Kelley; they later divorced. Craig and his fiancee, Barb Shuttleworth, have been together for the past 13 years. He was employed by Orkin Pest Control for over 20 years. Craig was a member of the Cedar Rapids Amateur Astronomers and volunteered at Eastern Iowa Observatory. Craig enjoyed art, astronomy, science, nature, camping, cars, John Deere tractors and the Chicago Cubs. He was a very proud grandpa and loved his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Albers; son, Matthew Albers; grandchildren, Zoey Schmidt, Owen Hirman and one on the way, Elinor; fiancee, Barb Shuttleworth; brother, Lonnie (Jean) Albers; two aunts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Relda Albers.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Craig's memory.
