Coulter, Kenneth W.
Kenneth W. Coulter, 75, of Independence, died on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. On Thursday, there will be a Military Service beginning at 7 p.m. at the White Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Kenneth was born on April 6, 1934, in Buchanan County near Independence, the son of Earl Leander and Wanda Lillian (Wright) Coulter. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1952. Mr. Coulter served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean conflict. On June 24, 1956, he and the former Beverly Jean Belzer were married at the First Methodist Church in Independence. He was the Chaplain for the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post No. 2440. He was also the Chairman of the Buchanan County Veterans Commission.
Mr. Coulter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly; son, David (Jeannie) Coulter of Clear Lake; daughter, Karen (Michael) Young of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; one great-grandson. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Deborah Coulter of Monroe; brother, Bill (Madonna) Coulter of Independence; and three sisters, Betty Conrad of Mount Vernon, Wanda Lehrkemp of Carroll, and Earlene (Gene) Devlin of Dundee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth C. Coulter; one brother; three sisters; sister-in-law, Bonnie Greene; and one brother-in-law.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the First United Methodist Church Radio Fund, the Cancer Society, and the Heart Fund.
