Cosgrove, Robert E.
Robert E. Cosgrove, 76, of 4525 First Ave. SW, died Friday June 15, 2012, at his home of cancer. Memorial services: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where there also will be military rites. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa (Shawn) Thomas and Kristine (Greg) Long, both of Cedar Rapids, and Cynthia (Pat) Robinson of Shellsburg; a son, Thomas (Wendy) of Glacier, Wash.; three brothers, Father Bill of Arizona, DeWayne (Carol) of Naples, Fla., and David (Linda) of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters, Joanne (Jerry) Ourada of Sioux Falls, S.D., Marlene (Dave) O'Rourke of Marion and Patricia (Robert) Barnett of Arizona. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Josh (Amy), Joe, Jake, Ryan, Cody, Heather, Amanda, Sarah, Brittni, Anna Marie and Lydia; four great-grandchildren, Hanna, Jenna, Lilly and Jerra; and his best friend, Betty Johnson, and her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob was born May 2, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Mary (Gatens) Cosgrove. He married Frances Williams on Nov. 26, 1960, in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced, but remained friends. Bob worked for the Cedar Rapids Community School District for over 31 years, retiring in 1993.
Bob enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Lake Delhi, going for boat rides and especially time spent with his beloved family and friends.
He was a very kind and generous person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Luke's Hospice.
