Corso, Robert J. 'Bob'
Robert J “Bob” Corso, 76, longtime Coralville resident, passed away peacefully at the Mercy Hospice Unit of Mercy Iowa City on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013. A gathering for family and friends will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., in Coralville. Private burial will be held on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, Pathways Adult Day Health Center, or to Boy Scouts of America.
Bob was born April 5, 1937, in Iowa City, the son of Joseph and Ethel (Gifford) Corso. A short time after graduating from City High, Bob began his career in the automotive field, starting with Dickerson and Ellis Chrysler, Volkswagen, Lawrence Brothers, and later spending many years with Carquest until retiring in 2011.
Bob loved the outdoors, especially going camping and snowmobiling with his children. He also enjoyed the hunting trips to Canada with his dad and brothers. Later in life, he enjoyed feeding the wildlife in his yard and watching their ventures. Bob was also a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Iowa City.
Cherishing the memories of Bob are his wife, Jane, of more than 50 years; and their three children: daughter, Christina Stancel (Doug), and their children, Gitana and Ryley, and Bob's great-grandson, Greyson; son, Tony Corso (special friend Beth) and daughter, Amber; son, David Corso (Brenda); Bob's two brothers, Michael Corso (Mick) and Joe Corso (Linda); a sister, Wencie Reynolds; a sister-in-law, Amy Corso; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Corso; and his special aunts, Anna and Katherine.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Bozek and to Pathways Adult Day Health Center for the wonderful care that they provided to Bob.
He will be dearly missed.
