                                    Corbett, James J.
James J. Corbett, 58, of Center Point, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, by the Rev. Dennis Cahill. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
James is survived by his wife, Pat; two sons, Matthew (Jenny) Corbett of Mount Vernon and Jerod Corbett of Marion; his mother, Evelyn Corbett of Ashton; two sisters, Judy (Richard) Honkomp of Sheldon, and Nancy (Tom) Meinen of Spirit Lake; a brother, John (Cindy) Corbett of Ashton; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born Sept. 14, 1951, in Sibley, the son of James and Evelyn (Fettes) Corbett. He was draft pick #1-1969 for the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. On Aug. 5, 1972, he married Pat Honkomp. Jim worked for Rockwell Collins from 1988-2003.
When not being the center of attention, he enjoyed hunting with his buddies, learning about all kinds of history, and listening to blues music. Jim was famous for his “Corbett Ribs,” which he enjoyed making for family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Michelle.
A memorial fund has been established with the proceeds supporting liver research.
