Cora Cooks, 85, of Cedar Rapids, closed her eyes here and opened them in Heaven on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 1:00 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 4:00-7:00 pm at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include son, Robert Jenkins, of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren; Dicia (Tony) Young, Adam (Tara) Cook, Amanda Dixon Cora Dixon, and James Hall, 19 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. A daughter in-law, Debra Dixon, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin Cooks, son, Ben Dixon, grandson, T.J. Dixon, along with two sisters, Ella Doss Murphy and Johnnie Mae Ray and a brother, Luther Dixon
Cora was born February 23, 1938, in Louise, Mississippi to parents, Bob and Johnnie Mae Dixon. She married Alvin Cooks on August 16, 1968, in Belzoni, Mississippi. Cora was an interior decorator for Home Interiors. She was a loving wife and mother who took great pride in caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be dearly missed. Cora was a devoted mother who could be heard cheering “that’s my baby” at each of her son’s sporting events. Cora will be remembered for her loving gentle spirit and boisterous laugh. She lived and taught her children integrity, kindness and strength in the face of adversity. Living by Joshua 24:15. Cora created a loving home with open doors to her many nieces and nephews and they will always remember the many fishing trips in the camper with her and their Uncle Al. The world is a better place having had her in it.
