Coppess, David Alan
David Alan Coppess, 60, went to be with his Savior on Thursday, April 18, 2013, in Rockport, Texas.
He was born Oct. 13, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Seward and Nancy (West) Coppess. He was on disability from the Marines.
David was a kind and gentle soul who could get along with anyone. He loved fishing, rocking on the porch and doing for others. He loved playing Santa Claus and passing out candy to all the employees of PRC. He volunteered for the Rockport Theatre as a greeter.
He was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and older brother, Kenny Coppess.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Zoe Harris Coppess of Texas; stepson, Troy (Robin) McDowell of Texas; daughter, Melissa (Jody) Truitt of Iowa; stepdaughter, Cassandra (Rick) Clinton of Georgia; and longtime friend, Angela Musser of Texas. He left behind four sisters, Karen (Richard) Bragg, Shirley (JD) Stewart and Rosa (Whitey) Adresen, all of Iowa, and Carolyn (Gary) Thomas of Michigan; and five brothers, Jerry, Ronnie, Kevin, Fred and Phillip Coppess, all of Iowa. He left nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing was held at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport. A memorial service and luncheon will be Saturday, May 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Valley View Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Keith Pitts officiating.
