Coover, Maxine G.
Maxine G. Coover, 95, died Dec. 27, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton from complications of age. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Elberon United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Norm Bennett. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be just before the service.
Maxine Coover was born Sept. 3, 1915, in Marengo, Iowa, to George and Amy Belle (Emrine) Eastridge. She grew up in Koszta, Iowa. Maxine attended the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton from 1924 to 1938. She was active in the choir and played clarinet in the band. She attended the 2010 Alumni Reunion at the school and was given a certificate of congratulations for being the oldest graduate attending, from the oldest graduating class. After she graduated, Maxine married Arthur Coover on Sept. 13, 1941, and they made their home in and around the Koszta/Marengo area.
Maxine belonged to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Oklahoma City, where she lived following her husband's death. Maxine has been living with her daughter, Lois, in Elberon, Iowa, for the past 13 months. She loved to read her Braille Bible and Christian literature. She lived a full and happy life in service to her Lord.
Maxine is survived by three sons, James (Darlene) of Sioux City and Robert (Stacia) and Nathan (Cathy) of Wellston, Okla.; three daughters, Barbara Hensley and Alice Jones of Oklahoma City and Lois Stull of Elberon; 33 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Maxine was thrilled to get reacquainted with her dear childhood friend, Phyllis Stull, whom she visited weekly at the Keystone Care Center.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, four brothers, one grandson and one great-grandson.
We are content with the fact that she is celebrating in Heaven with her family, where she can walk without pain and can see all the glory that has awaited her there.
Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine is serving the family.
