Cook, Virginia 'Ginny' M.
Virginia “Ginny” M. Cook, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Keystone Place. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time. The Rev. Ron Connerly will officiate. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis (Jim) Sliger of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Charlie (Julie) Zeman, Dena (Brannen) Bourgeois and Ginny (Larry) Scott; seven great-grandchildren, Cody, Trevor, Kenzie, Peyton, Dylan, Noah and Jonah; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Briggs; sisters, Patsey Whittles, Phyllis Carter, Helen Lonnroth, Daisy Morin and Myrna Baker; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Claire Leverington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; and a brother, Jack Briggs.
Virginia was born Feb. 25, 1923, the daughter of John and Daisy (Coleman) Briggs, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On Dec. 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Charles Cook in Boston, Mass. He died June 20, 2008. Virginia and Charles retired to Mesa, Ariz., for 15 years before returning to Cedar Rapids. She loved dancing, crafts, ceramics and sewing, especially making Raggedy Ann Dolls. A member of the Red Hat group, Virginia was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved by all, we will miss you Nanny.
The family gives a special thanks to St. Luke's Hospice, especially Lolly, for their loving care given to Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice in memory of Virginia.
