Cook, Diane Elizabeth

Diane Elizabeth Cook, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at home, Monday, May 27, 2013, surrounded by family. No services are planned.

In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Hospice of Mercy. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Diane was born in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 12, 1932, the daughter of William and Ruth Sewell. Diane attended Roosevelt High School. She married Donald T. Cook on Sept. 9, 1950.

Diane loved playing bingo and gambling at casinos and spent numerous hours playing cards with family and friends. She enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting for night crawlers, frogs and “snipes” with her grandkids and niece. She enjoyed dancing, baking, cooking and crocheting. Diane loved the sun and spent several winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. Diane belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Club, American Legion #298 and Elks Lodge 251.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dolorez and Judy; and her best friend, Maureen Tickal.

She is survived by her husband, Don; daughter, Dawn (Dick) Lorenzen; son, Douglas (Cheryl) Cook; seven grandchildren, Amie, Jill, Tracy, Heidi, Holly, Denise and Heather; her sister, Billie (Rich) Bilsland; and nine great-grandchildren.

Diane will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
