Cook, Dennis W. 'Roy'
Dennis W. “Roy” Cook, 62, of Toddville, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at his home following a brief illness. Family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. To honor Dennis' wishes, there will not be a formal service. Private family inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, with military honors by American Legion Post 298 of Marion.
Survivors include his children, Heather Cook and Jeremy (Sherry) Cook, both of Toddville; two grandchildren, Allikan and Cade Cook; his mother, Arvena Cook of Coggon; sister, Debbie Cook of Anamosa; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Hale (Gary) Rodriguez of California.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife; his father; his sister, Rochelle; his close friend and fishing buddy, Dick Jorgenson; and many of his canine companions.
Dennis was born Aug. 20, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Burl W. and Arvena M. (Price) Cook. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1965 and served with honor in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. On May 8, 1970, Dennis was united in marriage to Dianne A. Schulte in Coggon. She died Jan. 13, 1995. Dennis worked for almost 30 years at Conveyor Engineering in Cedar Rapids.
Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Anamosa Bowhunters Club. He liked motorcycle riding, NASCAR, and gardening. Dennis enjoyed time spent in the outdoors and being with his grandchildren and his dogs.
Dennis will be remembered as a “free spirit” and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Dennis' memory.
