Cook, Arvena M.
Arvena M. Cook, 91, of Hiawatha, formerly of Coggon, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, with her loving daughter by her side, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah M. (Larry) Collins of Anamosa; a brother, Irvin (Eleanor) Price Jr. of Alburnett; her grandchildren, Angela K.(Roland) Poppe of Howell, Mich., Pamela (Jerry) Mosher of Marion, Heather Cook of Toddville, Jeremy (Sherry) Cook of Toddville, Tyler (Brittney) Powell of Anamosa and Emily Powell of Cedar Rapids; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and good friends, Norma Chapman of Central City and Pauline Schatzle of Hiawatha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burl Cook; a daughter, Rochelle Poppe; a son, Dennis Cook; daughter-in-law, Dianne Cook; and many siblings.
Arvena was born Sept. 20, 1921, near Troy Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Nellie Fern (Potter) Price. She married Burl W. Cook on June 24, 1940, in Cedar Rapids. Arvena was a great homemaker, loved taking care of her family and was very proud of them. She loved cooking, square dancing, music, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Promise House and the Hiawatha Care Center for being her second family.
