Conrad Lee VandeZandschulp, born April 9, 1947, passed away April 16, 2025.
Conrad grew up on a farm outside Orange City, Iowa and graduated from Maurice-Orange City High School in 1964. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1966 and served his country honorably in the Vietnam War where he earned multiple medals including the Purple Heart. When he returned home he began his career in law enforcement serving multiple agencies before joining the Cedar Rapids Police Department where he served
until retiring in 2003. While serving the CRPD he earned the Medal of Valor. After retiring he continued his life of service by volunteering for many organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Marine Corps League earning the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year award. While in the Marine Corps League he served the color guard and as commandant.
He moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon in 2017 where he continued his life of service volunteering at Sky Lakes Medical Center, the Marine Corps League, Meals on Wheels and the VFW. While volunteering at Sky Lakes he met his partner in love and life Maria Saiz.
Conrad's smile and love of life were contagious. His life of service showed in his desire to help those around him. While he easily made friends everywhere he went, his family was the joy of his life. Spending
time with his siblings, children, and grandchildren brought him happiness. His presence, smile, and laugh filled all of our hearts with love and made us smile.
Conrad is survived by his three children, Scott (Pam), Corey (Kristen), and Cara, his five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild as well as his siblings Marlene (Darrel), Marvin, Janice (Hank), James (Patricia), Jeris (Carla). He was preceded in death by his brother Harlan and parents Henry and Nellie (VandeGriend) VandeZandschulp.
Services were held in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Burial will be at Iowa Veteran's Cemetery, Adel, Iowa, date to be determined.
