CONNIE J. DELANEY
Fort Madison
Connie J. Delaney, 80, passed away Jan. 12, 2016, at 8:10 a.m. at Kensington Assisted Living Center after a five-year battle with Parkinson's disease.
Connie was born Aug. 15, 1935, in Omaha, Neb., daughter of John and Mildred Fellows. Connie married William Delaney on Oct. 25, 1958, in Shenandoah.
Connie is survived by daughter, Debra Kallner, and her son, Aaron, of Long Island, N.Y.; son, Michael, and his sons, Tyler and Brandon, of Fort Madison; Christopher and his wife, Lisa, and their children, Natalie, Nicholas, Benjamin and Tessa, of Marion; and brother, Larry and his wife, Jeanne, of Tucson, Ariz.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jon; husband, William; and granddaughter, Jennifer.
Connie lived in many Iowa towns throughout her life to include Magnolia, Humboldt, Sheldon, Shenandoah, Union, New Providence, Iowa Falls, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and two Arizona towns, Williams and Flagstaff.
Connie graduated from Iowa State University and was a respected teacher for 34 years.
Connie touched many people in her lifetime. She was a caring wife, loving mother and a loyal friend.
Besides family, her teaching was her lifelong dream. Connie's goal was to positively influence as many kids as possible through her teaching and her positive personality.
Connie was a devout Lutheran, enjoyed playing cards, reading, telling jokes and volunteering her time to assist others. Once retired, Connie volunteered for University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Volunteer Services as a hospital clown and in Information Services. Connie also was a sample lady at Coralville Hy-Vee, all of which she treasured.
Connie will be truly missed by many. Her non-judgmental personality and her acute ability to listen and counsel was a rare, but cherished attribute.
Connie's children will be hosting a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, April 30, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Faith & Life Center, 8300 C Ave. NE, Marion, IA 52302, from 1 to 4 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Connie's name and will be shared between the Kensington Assisted Living Center in Fort Madison and Great River Hospice Care in Burlington.
