Compton, Jack Harry
Jack Harry Compton, 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial to follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Jack was born May 18, 1936, in Clear Lake, Iowa, to D.D. and Rose J. (Dutro) Compton. He graduated from Ames High School in 1954. Jack married Ruth Ann Smith in 1956. They resided in Ames, Iowa, Marshall, Minn., and most recently Cedar Rapids.
Jack had a lifelong career with Hy-Vee Food Stores, retiring in 1990 as a store manager. Following Ruth Ann's death in 1999, Jack married Sandra Wilson in 2002. She passed away in 2008.
Jack is survived by his children: John (Renee) Compton, and their children, Jenna and Matt; Jim Compton, and children, Jami (Joe) and Jared; Kerry Compton-Sherman (Randy) and her children, Josh (Amber) and Zach (Courtney); three great-grandsons; three stepchildren, Cami McCalley, Chad and Todd Picknell, and their families; two sisters, Beverly Pearson of Cedar Rapids and Karen Popelka of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack enjoyed golf (sometimes), gambling (sometimes), and his family (sometimes); his family and friends will miss him (ALWAYS).
