COLLEEN VAN SLYKE Mount Vernon Colleen Ann Van Slyke, 65, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Regal Crown Reception Banquet Hall, 1003 North Washington St., Lisbon, Iowa. Survivors include her husband, Edward Van Slyke; daughter, Pam (Brett) Cavanaugh; five grandchildren, Hannah (Ben) Long, Kathleen Cavanaugh, Montgomery Cavanaugh, Caleb Cavanaugh and Nathan Merrifield; one great-grandson, Asher Long; and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Mark Van Slyke. Colleen was born Dec. 7, 1949, the daughter of Merle and Josephine (Seago) Potter in Waterloo. She married Edward Van Slyke on Oct. 30, 1971. Colleen found great joy in sewing and crocheting. She also had an avid love for hummingbirds. Her family was very important to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Colleen's memory.
