Coleman, Bernard David
Bernard David Coleman, 85, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. His funeral Mass, celebrating his life, will be at St. John's Catholic Church in Coggon at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8. Family and friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City, where the wake will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Coggon.
Bernard is survived by his four children, Becky (Bob) Basham, Donnie (Linda) Burke, Dave (Ann) Coleman and Sandy (Doug) Winn; grandchildren, Denise (Skip) Basham, Jason (Jennifer) Basham, Christina Steen, Tim (Gina), Tom (Mindy) and Travis (Cassie) Burke, Trisha (Nick) Putman, Martha and Daniel Coleman, Luke and Jared (Kylee) Winn; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jeremy, Bailee, Tiara, Kalinda, M'Lynn, Sadie, Cadynce, Mackenzie, Macoy, Christopher, Ella, Nolan, Kaden, Elizabeth, Catherine and& two more on the way; in-laws, many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Harley.
Bernard was born Aug. 10, 1926, to Dennis and Caroline Coleman near Silver Creek. He married L. Kathryn “Katie” Klima on May 26, 1954. His loving wife passed away Sept. 13th of this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Robert, Dennis and Richard; and sister, Marguerite Spang.
Bernard worked at Quaker Oats for 33 years. He and Katie were also vendors at the Cedar Rapids City Market for over 50 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, farming, and fishing, as well as reading, dancing, chatting with family and friends, playing cards, and an occasional trip to the casino.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
