Cody Wade, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, June 12, 2025. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service with military honors will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the funeral home, with an additional visitation one hour prior.
Cody was born on November 12, 1954, in Cedar Rapids to Marley and Pat (Hess) Wade. He graduated from Kennedy High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force and the Navy Reserves. Cody spent much of his career with Iowa Precision Industries, part of Mestek Machinery, retiring on July 9, 2023. He was a member of AmVets and formerly belonged to the Cedar Rapids Eagles Club #2272.
Cody had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in fishing, golfing, mushroom hunting, and gardening. He loved going to baseball games and concerts. A talented cook, Cody was known for smoking meats and competing in chili cook-offs, earning a state championship title in 1999. He was also a gifted metal sculptor, crafting unique pieces with skill and creativity. Cody was the kind of man no one ever had a bad word to say about. He looked rough and tough, but he was a kind, gentle soul. If you asked him for anything, he was there.
Survivors include his sons, Aaron (Renae) Wade and Sean (Kelly) Wade, all of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Zoey Lewis, Eden, Shaelynn, Brycen, and Makyla Wade; great-granddaughter, Maylee Lewis; siblings, Dale Wade (fiancée, Tona Kasey) of Cedar Rapids, LouAnn (Gary) Christensen of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Dave (Jean) Wade of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; his special friend, Tina Holmes of Cedar Rapids, along with her daughters; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and his beloved cat, “Kitty.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Annie Wade.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
