Burial will be in Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.
Doris Eleanor Clubb, daughter of William Kent Shepherd and Eletha Claire Wilhite, was born May 19, 1918, near Thornburg, Iowa. She attended grammar school in What Cheer before graduating in 1936 from North High School in Des Moines. Doris worked as a telephone operator before attending Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines. After receiving her degree in cosmetology Doris began working at the Webster City Hotel Beauty Shop. During that time she received a late night call to style Frances Ethel Gumm's hair. Doris eventually moved back to the Thornburg area and began working at the Grocery Store in Gibson.
On Sept. 16, 1951, she was united in marriage to Rufus Paul Clubb at the Presbyterian Church in Gibson. The couple farmed for several years in the Gibson, Thornburg and Delta areas before Rufus died unexpectedly in 1975. In 1976, Doris relocated to Sigourney and in 2002, she settled in What Cheer.
She often stated she enjoyed living in What Cheer because it felt like home. Doris was a member of the Gibson Presbyterian Church, where she was baptized by the Rev. William A. Muir on June 16, 1929. She was also active in the Thornburg Friendly Garden Club, Warren Homemakers, Scattergood Club, United Presbyterian Women, Order of the Eastern Star and the Gibson Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rufus Clubb; a daughter, Retha Karyl Clubb; two brothers and their wives, Robert (Adena) Shepherd and William (Ethlyn) Shepherd; and a brother-in-law, Deno Brugioni.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Diane Clubb; a sister, Edris Brugioni; two nieces, Donna Satre and Amanda Penning; and four nephews, Sam Shepherd, Dan Shepherd, Ed Shepherd and Denny Brugioni. Her legacy also will be honored by several great- and great-great- nieces and nephews.
