Clifford Wayne Ayers, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, May 12, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a luncheon following at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids.
Clifford was born on April 17, 1948, in Monticello, Iowa, to Darold and Nellie (Peyton) Ayers. On February 26, 1977, he married Cheryl Irene Heck in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Langer Manufacturing for 10 years and later as general manager for D&N Fence Co Inc. for 55 years until his retirement in 2020. Clifford was a member of the Cedar Rapids Moose Lodge 304/515 and the Palo River Rats Car Club. He loved working (or rather spending money on) his car, a ’38 Dodge. Clifford also enjoyed traveling, camping, and cruising the coast in Gulfport, Mississippi. He cherished each and every dog he had over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Cheryl Ayers of Cedar Rapids; children, Janelle Ayers, James (Jenny) Ayers, Terry Ayers, all of Cedar Rapids, and Robert (Cindy) Ayers of Ankeny, Iowa; brother, Doug Ayers of Cedar Rapids; sister, Darlene Eiler of Marion, Iowa; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend, Kathy Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Darold Ayers, Jr., Delores Hobson, Gerri and Leroy Henderson, and Angie Ayers; sister-in-law, Dori Ayers; brother-in-law, Don Eiler; and his brother from another mother, Mike Wilson.
