Cleo Dodson, 87, of Lone Tree, went to join his Lord on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014. Memorial services will
be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree where he was a member. The family will be present one hour before the service and following the burial. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery with military services by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457 where
he had been a member for 68 years. Following the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the United Presbyterian Church.
Memorial contributions in Cleo's name can be made to Camp Courageous or United Presbyterian Church.

Cleo was the oldest son born to Eslie Harry Dodson and Merle Draper Dodson on May 28, 1927, in rural Johnson County, Iowa. He received his education at Pokertown Country School and graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1945. At age 17, he enlisted in the Navy and was in World War II at the end of the conflict. He came home to farm and work with his father doing electrical wiring. He married Shirley Carter on June 30, 1953, at the Christian Church in Nichols, Iowa.
He was a member of
the United Presbyterian Church of Lone Tree.
He served as an elder, a skipper in the chartered members of the Mariners and was on the building committee when the church was built. He served on the Lone Tree Care Center board for 25 years and was on the building committee of the assisted living wing.
Cleo had a passion for aviation and was fortunate enough to fly two home built airplanes. He loved to tell stories about rounding up cattle, driving semis, driving fast cars and riding motorcycles. He was well versed in politics and had a sense of humor.
Cleo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; two sons, Steve of Lone Tree and Kevin of Livermore, Calif.; one daughter, Lori (Mike) Lilleg of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Jasmine of Iowa City and Jeremy of Livermore, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren, Matthias (Elizabeth) Lilleg of Iowa City and Andrew (Ying) Lilleg of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth.
