Clayton W. Michel, 90, of Riverside, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 6, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by his children.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Riverside Emergency Services Assn. (RESA), P.O. Box 33, Riverside, IA 52327.
Clayton was born Dec. 31, 1932 in Hills, Iowa, the son of Glen and Marguerite (Droll) Michel. Clayton was a graduate of St. Patrick High School in Iowa City and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. On Oct. 25,1958, he married Maryann Conklin.
Clayton was employed at Streb Construction for many years. He was a skilled woodworker and carpenter and had built many homes, including those of his children. Something he was very proud of.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Clayton and Maryann wintered for many years in Sun City, Ariz., Gulf Shores, Ala., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Florida and Texas.
Clayton is survived by his two sons, Brian (Cindy) Michel and Doug (Shelly) Michel, both of Riverside; five grandchildren, Nathan, Adam, Logan, Jake (Jackie) and Josh; great-grandson, Beau; two brothers, Steven (Cyndi) Michel of Frytown and Gerald (Joan) Michel of Hills.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maryann, in 2023; four sisters, Gwendolyn (George) White, Marilyn (Hank) Knebel, Marlene (Bud) Eden and infant sister, Ann; and two brothers, Calvin (Jackie) Michel and Richard (Sally) Michel.
