Clayton Dietz
Cedar Rapids
Clayton Dietz was born on January 17, 1988, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Tony and Carolyn Dietz. A proud graduate of Cedar Falls High School, Clayton went on to further his education at the University of Iowa. Clayton built a distinguished career in banking through hard work, integrity, and determination—rising from his start as a teller to his final role as Cash Management Officer at BankIowa, where he was highly respected by colleagues and clients alike. As part of his professional career, Clayton served on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Humane Alliance.
On May 6, 2017, Clayton married the love of his life, Bailey Salow, in Manchester, Iowa. Together, they built a life full of adventure and unwavering love, sharing their home with their cherished dogs, Emma and Eddie. Clayton was a devoted dog dad and took great pride in the care and companionship he gave them.
An avid outdoorsman, Clayton found peace and joy in nature. He loved deer hunting, fishing, kayaking, and hiking. Whether it was a weekend trip or a spontaneous outing, Clayton treasured time spent traveling with Bailey and their dogs.
Clayton’s vibrant personality and love for life extended to all who knew him. He was a passionate volleyball player at Volleys and the YMCA, and he greatly valued the friendships he formed through those activities. Some of his most treasured memories were made at “the timber” with his close friends, Matt and Lori.
Clayton will be remembered for his warmth, sense of adventure, and the deep love he had for his wife, family, friends, and four-legged companions.
Clayton is survived by his loving wife, Bailey (Salow) Dietz; his parents, Tony and Carolyn Dietz; and his sisters, Olivia (Eric) Strain and Lindsey (Eric) Smith; grandparents, Leland and Amaryllis Lindgren and James and LaVonne Dietz. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Beth (Rick) Carnicle; brothers-in-law Ashton (Jessica) Salow and Keegan Carnicle; and his cherished nephew, Oliver Salow. Clayton is lovingly remembered by Bailey’s step-siblings—Lindsay, Jared, and Tanner—their significant others, and a large circle of nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his father-in-law, Jim Salow, and his wife, Michelle; half brothers-in-law, Preston and Owen Salow; Bailey’s grandparents, Gerald and Judy Zehr and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by Joan “Dodie” Salow, Bailey’s cherished aunt, who held a special place in their hearts. Dodie’s steadfast love, guidance, and nurturing presence left a lasting impact on both of their lives. Clayton was also preceded in death by Bailey’s grandparents, David and Rose Mary Salow, and Mary Lou Carnicle, as well as several beloved members of his own family.
A time of remembrance will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Monarch Room at Teahen Funeral Home. To honor Clayton’s vibrant spirit and love for all things unique, we invite all guests to wear colorful and fun attire, just as he would want us to remember him full of joy and fun.
